What is the advantage of Handcrafted Soap over Commercial Soaps?

Handcrafted soaps have better ingredients, retain all of the natural glycerin produced during saponification, they are gentler on your skin than commercial soaps which contain detergents and other chemical additives which can cause skin irritation. Our soap won’t strip the natural oils off your skin as detergents can, instead they cleanse your skin of dirt and excess oil, leaving your skin feeling moisturized and clean.

How do you make your soaps?

We follow the cold process method of making soap. This process is much like the past generations used, except instead of using potash lye made from ashes and fat from animals, we use sodium hydroxide(lye) derived from salts and vegetable oils.

When our Soap Oils Base is blended with the lye, it causes a reaction where the lye binds with the fatty acids in the oils changing the mixture into soap. This process is call Saponification, and once complete there is no lye remaining.

What do you put in your soaps?

Over the last few years, we have developed a special blend of oils that provides a moisturizing, long lasting soap bar that gives wonderful lather and bubbles. This blend includes Coconut Oil, Organic RSPO(Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) Palm Oil, Castor Oil, Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, Shea Butter, and Cocoa Butter. We believe that every bar of soap should have quality ingredients that are long lasting, with a good amount of luxury moisturizers that are sure to leave your skin feeling amazing.

What is RSPO Palm Oil?

RSPO stands for Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil. There are lots of types of Palm Oil out there, the big concern is impact on the rainforest and on greenhouse gases. RSPO Certified Palm Oil has had to meet certain sustainability guiding principles in all the areas of collection, production and distribution. This means that by using RSPO Palm Oil we encourage sustainable business practices, and leave less of an impact on the world around us. For more information take a look at www.rspo.org

Do you put Glycerin in your soap?

Glycerin is a natural byproduct that is created during the saponification process. Glycerin is very valuable and is great for your skin. Big manufactures remove most of glycerin created in their soaps and sell it for other purposes, maybe retaining a small amount in the soap or replacing it with a detergent or other type of moisturizer. We like our soaps with all its natural glycerin, and plan on keeping it that way.

Do you offer Vegan Soaps?

Yes, most of our soaps are Vegan, and contain no animal fats or by-products. (FYI “Sodium Tallowate” is the official name for saponified beef fat)

Our ONLY soaps that contains any animal product are our Goat’s Milk Soap (and our goats milk is made by happy goats that are never fed anything genetically modified or containing animal bi-products, and raised on farms that do not use any sprays, insecticides, or pesticides. Our Goat Milk is whole and pasteurized and has no BGH ( growth hormones), antibiotics, or preservatives).

Bar Size: Our soaps are hand poured and hand-cut in small batches.  We price and sell our bars based on net weight after full cure.  Because they are hand-cut, some bars are slightly bigger.  We anticipated this and you are only paying for the minimum size, and your bar could be up to half an ounce larger than advertised. Fun Fact:  The water used in soap is the vehicle the sodium hydroxide uses to bind with the oils; it evaporates over time. The majority of it evaporates in the first 3-4 weeks. This evaporation causes the bars to become smaller, harder, and longer lasting.

How do we compare?

Our soaps are made with the highest quality ingredients, they’re long lasting - good to the last sliver, and contain no detergents, or hard to pronounce ingredients.

Here are a couple of common brands Dove/Irish Spring/Zest

A few things to consider when reviewing ingredient lists:

  • Ingredient lists are ordered from most to least.
  • Fragrance levels are typically between 0-5 % for soaps.
  • Knowing this you can look at any ingredient list and see about how much, or how little is included (like the Zest, see how far down their Cocoa Butter and Shea are?).
  • The internet is a great place to search out some of these longer less common words.
